First, what is a co-organizer?
Co-organizers show up in the participant list just like the main organizer. They have many of the same permissions and can help run the meeting, which is great if you want someone to assist or step in when you're unavailable.
✅ What Co-Organizers Can Do:
During a meeting, co-organizers have many helpful tools at their fingertips
✅ Speak and turn on their video
✅ Actively participate in the meeting chat
✅ Share their screen or other content
✅ View a shared PowerPoint privately
✅ Take control of someone else’s PowerPoint presentation
✅ Mute participants and prevent them from unmuting
✅ Remove participants from the meeting
✅ Admit people from the meeting lobby (if they’re signed into Teams)
✅ Change participant roles (e.g., from attendee to presenter)
✅ Start or stop the meeting recording and live transcription
✅ Manage breakout rooms (must be in the same org as the organizer)
✅ Change meeting settings during the call
✅ Add or remove apps, use apps, and change app settings
❌ What Co-Organizers Can’t Do
Even with all those capabilities, there are a few things co-organizers can’t do
❌ Make changes to the meeting before it starts
❌ Remove or change the role of the main meeting organizer
❌ Change meeting options for a channel meeting unless they were specifically invited
❌ Be designated as a co-organizer if they’re an external guest
❌ Manage breakout rooms if they’re not part of the same organization as the meeting organizer
