EMU imposes a 50GB storage quota on all google workspace accounts. This allotment is shared between all google services including Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, and more. Users over this quota will be unable to edit or upload files and may encounter other limitations as well. Additional storage can be requested in small allotments by emailing helpdesk@emu.edu
How to manage your Google Storage:
If you wish to review your Google storage or clean up items you no longer need in order to free up space, navigate to your Google Drive (drive.google.com) and click on the “Storage” button in the left pane.
This view will provide a summary of your usage, broken down into three categories. These categories are described below along with tips to reduce storage utilization.
- Drive:
- Below the category view is a list titled “Files using Drive storage”. This list contains the files in your Google Drive using the most storage, sorted from largest to smallest. Files near the top of the list will have the largest impact on reducing your total storage usage.
- Gmail:
- Enter “size:10000000” into your Gmail search bar to search for emails with attachments >10MB. Most emails take up very little space, but deleting emails with large attachments can help reduce your overall storage.
- Photos:
- If you have the Google Photos app installed on your phone, ensure that you aren’t syncing photos from your phone to your EMU google account. Steps to turn this off can be found here. Once turned off, navigate to photos.google.com to delete photos you don’t need.
